INTRODUCTION
The LMS provides a method for you to export existing surveys to perform bulk editing in a spreadsheet and then import the spreadsheet updating the existing survey with your desired changes. You can add new survey questions and edit and delete existing survey questions in the spreadsheet.
A survey does not need to be published to export.
EXPORT A SURVEY
Follow these steps to export a survey:
- Click the Administration tab at the top of the screen
- Click the Training Import and Creation link, then the Surveys link on the left menu bar
- Search and locate the desired survey to be exported
- Click the Edit icon to the left of the desired spreadsheet
- Click the Export button located on the second button bar
Note: You must have your browser's pop-up blocker disabled to view the spreadsheet- The Excel file will appear as a button in the lower-left corner of the Google Chrome browser
- Click the button to open the spreadsheet
- Refer to the Edit Survey Spreadsheet article below to make the desired changes to the survey
- Save the spreadsheet to your local hard drive or network location being careful not to change the name
- Refer to the Import the Survey article below to import the updated survey
EDIT THE SURVEY SPREADSHEET
Follow the steps below to add a new survey question, edit an existing survey question, or delete an existing survey question:
Add a New Survey Question
- Insert a row above the last row with the ###### signs
Note: Do not add any content in the spreadsheet following the pound signs. This will ensure your import will work properly - Column A - ID: Leave blank
- Column B - Item Type Enter either of the following - case sensitive - no spaces
- Survey: Informational
Used to indicate an informational field - Survey: SingleAnswer
Used to indicate a task
- Survey: Informational
- Column C - Title: Enter a title if applicable, otherwise leave blank. Not case sensitive and may use spaces. 132 character limit.
- Column D - Question/Body Text: Enter the survey question or informational text. Not case sensitive and may use spaces. Unlimited text field.
Example Informational Text: Please complete this survey immediately following the class
Example Question Text: The content was organized and easy to follow - Column E - Link URL: Enter a URL if applicable, otherwise leave blank.
- Column F - Answer #: Enter the survey answer
Example Answer #s: Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor or provide some more elaborate responses for the survey taker to choose from. - Column G - Answer # Flag in Reports: Enter one of the following
- True - Flags the answer in the reports
- False - Does not flag the answer in reports
- N/A - Type N/A when Column B is Survey: Informational
- Column H - Answer # Require Comment: Enter one of the following
- True - Flags the answer in the reports
- False - Does not flag the answer in reports
- N/A - Type N/A when Column B is Survey: Informational
- Additional columns are added for each additional survey answer.
- Save the spreadsheet to your local hard drive or network location being careful not to change the name

Edit an Existing Survey Question
- Make the changes to any existing column
- Column A - ID: Leave blank
- Column B - Item Type Enter either of the following - case sensitive - no spaces
- Survey: Informational

Delete an Existing Survey
- Delete the desired row using your Excel spreadsheet commands
- Save the spreadsheet to your local hard drive or network location being careful not to change the name
- Refer to the Import the Survey article below to import the updated survey
IMPORT THE SURVEY
Follow these steps to import the survey after you have made all your desired changes and saved the spreadsheet:
- Click the Administration tab at the top of the screen
- Click the Training Import and Creation link and then the Surveys link on the left menu bar
- Search and locate the survey following the directions provided in Using Search article
- Click the Edit icon to the left of the desired survey
- Click the Import button located on the second button bar
- Click the Browse button
- Navigate to the desired spreadsheet on your local hard drive or network location
- Click on the spreadsheet file
- Click the Open button in the lower right corner
- You will be returned to the Edit Survey screen in the LMS
- Click the Upload button to the right of the Browse button
- The new survey will be uploaded
- Click the Save button to save the changes
- Click the Publish button when you are ready to publish the new survey and assign it
